Musica e tecnologia: un rapporto virtuoso

La storia della musica è stata sempre intrecciata con la storia della scienza e della tecnologia, da Pitagora a Stockhausen e oltre. La nascita della musica elettroacustica nel primo Novecento e dell’informatica musicale nel secondo dopoguerra hanno determinato una grande accelerazione del rapporto fra musica e tecnologia e hanno favorito lo sviluppo dell’interazione audio-video in tempo reale. Molte università tecniche svolgono ricerca e offrono percorsi didattici che intrecciano discipline ingegneristiche e artistico-musicali; sempre più spesso i Conservatori affiancano, agli ambiti tradizionali della musica, percorsi per la formazione di esecutori e compositori di musica elettronica e di computer music, e di figure professionali quali il tecnico del suono, il tonmeister e il sound designer. L’articolo intende discutere le opportunità offerte alla cultura politecnica da questa virtuosa interazione attraverso la presentazione di una serie di esperienze (scientifiche, didattiche, performative) sviluppate al Politecnico di Torino, e anche in altre realtà accademiche nazionali e internazionali.

 

Music and technology: a virtuous relationship

The history of music has always been interweaved with the history of science and technology, since Pythagoras to Stockhausen and beyond. The birth of electroacoustic music in the early 1900s and of computer music after WWII have determined a strong acceleration of the relationship between music and technology and have promoted, in particular, the development of the real-time audio-video interaction, which is the basis of many of the most interesting today’s artistic expressions. Many technical universities, do research and offer teaching programs that interweave engineering and artistic/musical disciplines. More and more often Conservatories add to their traditional realm of music instruction, teaching paths aimed at the training of composers/performers of electronic and computer music, and of professional figures such as the sound engineer, the tonmeister and the sound designer. The article discusses the opportunities offered to the Polytechnic Culture by this virtuous interaction through the presentation of a series of experiences (scientific, didactic, and performative) carried out at Politecnico di Torino, as well as in other national and international academic institutions.
